The visit of the representatives of the Supreme Administrative Court to Luxembourg consisted of several working meetings, which were also attended by Slovak judges serving at the Court of Justice of the European Union – Judge of the Court of Justice Miroslav Gavalec and Judges of the General Court Beatrix Ricziová and Juraj Schwarz.

“I evaluate the visit to the CJEU as a great opportunity to present the activities of our Court at the seat of such an important European judicial institution. I am pleased that our discussions made it clear that the Supreme Administrative Court is not only firmly established domestically, but is also gaining recognition within international institutions.” said the President of the Supreme Administrative Court Pavol Naď after the meetings in Luxembourg.

The meetings were also attended by Lars Bay Larsen, Vice-President of the CJEU, Savvas S. Papasavvas, Vice-President of the General Court, and Daniel Staruch, Adviser to the President of the Supreme Administrative Court.

The Court of Justice is the judicial organ of the European Union which, in cooperation with the national courts of the Member States, supervises the application and uniform interpretation of Union law. The CJEU is based in Luxembourg and consists of two courts – the Court of Justice and the General Court.

The Court of Justice is made up of 27 judges and 11 advocates-general, who are appointed by mutual agreement of the governments of the Member States. Their term of office is six years, with the possibility of reappointment. The members of the Court of Justice are selected from among persons who are qualified to hold the highest judicial office in their countries or who are recognised experts in the field of law. The General Court consists of two judges per Member State, appointed by mutual agreement of the governments of the Member States. Their term of office is six years, with the possibility of reappointment.
