Judges of the European Courts meet at a two-day seminar of ACA-Europe

“At the seminar, which took place in Florence, Italy, several specific decisions were presented and analysed, mainly related to the sophisticated actions of giants in the field of information technology and the ways of handling or using available data for their commercial purposes,” said the President of the Panel, Katarína Benczová. She added that the programme also included group activities in which a fictitious case of abuse of a dominant position was presented by the speakers – namely, telecommunication services and aircraft servicing. “The participants in the seminar were divided into groups representing the competitors, the highest national competition authority and the court. Their task was to present their relationship and positions on the alleged abuse of position.”

The two-day seminar, which was attended by 52 judges of national courts in attendance and remotely, was mainly aimed at familiarising the participants with the development of the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, in particular concerning the application of Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which governs the prohibition of abuse of a dominant position.
